RE: Interior night lights

DH needs a bit of light in the bathroom at night. We hang a light stick in the corner. Very dim (just right when still half asleep) and no wiring required. ;-)

RE: Where to store chairs, etc. during travel?

Our original bag chairs went in the front storage compartment, but the new ones are too big to fit through the tiny door. We store them under the folded down dinette table; they don't move. The recliners go on top of the dinette with an old bedspread to pad the table so it doesn't get scratched.
The bikes go on top of the big SUV tow vehicle. There are yakima (and other) racks available for roof top transaport of 4 bikes.

RE: 2000 Trail-lite B19

According to my 2001 Bantam brochure (the 19' is not listed in the 1999 brochure I have) the B-19 Bantam is listed at the following: 2484 lb dry weight, 1314 lb load capacity, and 270 lb hitch weight.

RE: Considering Small Hybrid-Advice

If you want a small (17 - 18 foot) hybrid, then you will be fine with a tow vehicle rated for 5000 lbs. If you want to go "as big as possible," you may be happier with a beefier tow vehicle and larger HTT. You may want to spend some time deciding on your trailer needs and wants, and then basing your tow vehicle and trailer decision on that.
Lots of folks here start small and trade bigger in a few years. We started small (17' Bantam) and have been happy for 8 years. It all depends on you and your family; how do you like to camp?

RE: Screen door lock?

If you are concerned about security, the screen areas of the screen door only stop bugs, not bad guys. An overactive dog can easily get through screen; anyone with evil intentions won't be stopped by a lock, they'll just rip the screen.
On the other hand, we camp with tent ends (a hybrid) so clearly security is not a concern for us while camping. ;-)

RE: Taking the new trailer in for service

Padlin has it right on the nose. In general, nothing in our trailer has any value, so we leave it all in there when the trailer goes in for service. After all, the HTT is never secured unless it is closed up. Our son has climbed in by unsnapping a tent end - the door lock is pretty meaningless ;-)

RE: Bear Boxes in Yellowstone

Are you sure that there are bear boxes? When we were there in 04, the boxes were just for backpackers/bikers with no vehicle. We camped in Madison in our hybrid, and kept all scented items in the back of our SUV.
Btw, we are from California, with plenty of bear experience in Sequoia and Yosemite, so we were surprised to find that bear boxes were not required.
If it were me, I would telephone the rangers in Yellowstone to check about food storage rules.

RE: teenagers and camping

Actually, we DO camp less now that our teen doesn't want to go. We camped extensively from (his) age 4 years to 15 years, and have cut back last summer and this upcoming summer. When we do camp, we go with another family with a same-age teen. After all, in just another year, he'll be off to college, and we can camp all we want. Yes, we could make him go, but he's part of the family, too, and will be gone all too soon.

RE: Using Cruise Control while towing

I use cruise control to keep my speed down on the freeway. Here in CA the limit while towing is 55, but we have lots of excess tow capacity, so the big V8 keeps trying to tow at 70 mph. If I set it to about 58, it keeps me close to legal.

RE: Yellowstone Hybrid

In both Yellowstone and Yosemite, we have stored all scented items (not just food) in the bear box with the exception of items in the fridge. However, we did double bag items in the fridge to try to reduce the scent.

RE: Have a question....please look:

Our 2000 Bantam has a "wet" bath with exactly the same wallpaper on the walls. I'll grant that we have used it very infrequently, as it is a tiny space, but we have used the shower. We just wipe the walls down with a damp sponge/towel when finished showering. The original 8 year old wallpaper still looks new.

RE: ? about adding a second battery.

A lttle different solution... My husband added a second trailer battery to our HTT (not golf cart batteries.) He mounted a second battery box on the tongue, got a switch from a boat shop, and monitors battery health when we camp. We are only using (or charging) one battery at a time, depending on where the switch is pointing. We almost exclusively dry camp, and it's nice to have the back up on board.

RE: LODGEPOLE CAMPGROUND

Our experience is that there's no gas in Sequoia Nat'l Park (and hasn't been for some years), but it is seasonally available in the Nat'l Forest at Stony Creek. That's a bit down the road from Dorst.
You may see bears... be sure to follow all food storage rules. The rules help to keep the bears wild and save the lives of bears. The food storage rules are also federal law. Plus, there is nothing like seeing a bear doing natural "bear things" such as tearing apart a fallen log looking for bugs to eat or sunning at the edge of a meadow.
Be sure to take a couple of short walks -- you will get away from the big crowds quickly. Old favorites of ours are Tharps Log and the Congress Trail. And Frank is right -- everything is worth seeing.

RE: changing light bulbs on Starcraft ck19

In our trailer, the light fixtures each hold 2 bulbs. My wonderful husband just took out a bulb from each fixture.

We always dry camp. Tiny trailer, no oven, no microwave. We do LOTS of bbq-ing, plenty of fresh salads. We typically eat better when camping.

RE: bathroom use??

Teeny tiny holding tanks plus state/national parks with no hook ups equals using the campground's bathhouses. We have only a 7 gallon black tank and a 25 gallon gray. (Honest!) Staying more that 1 or 2 nights means that we have to conserve tank space, so we do.

RE: Ridge Pole Springing Lower Door Seals When Closed

We store our poles in the basement. DH mounted some pvc especially for the poles - keeps them corralled and out of the way. When the dealer showed us set up/take down, the poles were stowed away from the beds, so we've always done that.

Oh, heck, just have fun and go where you want to go. We have had 14 hours driving days (yes, more than once) and it's just fine. We were in a hurry to get to our destination, and it was totally worth the drive. Plan your fun and have a great time!
